Interviewed by Jessica Shiels / photos by Emma O’Brien

Jessica: How long have you lived in the area?
Malachi: 34 years.

Jessica: What’s a fond memory you have of living here?
Malachi: Sunny days walking on the Boyne. Taking part in the drama society. Playing tennis.

Jessica: Have you seen this community come back from hard times before?
Malachi: Yes, when I came here it was rather poor. There was no decent supermarket. There was no walkway on the Boyne.

Jessica: What are some things that have helped you through lockdown and what brings you joy?
Malachi: Weather was very good, going for short walks, reading and home improvements.

Jessica: What does community mean to you? What sort of things are you doing now to stay connected to your community and family?
Malachi: Joined Men Shed. Informal cycling club. Walking club.

Jessica: What message do you want to share for yourself and this community in 10 years time?
Malachi: More hope in saving the environment. More positive effort in saving the environment.
