Solape: How long have you lived in the area?
Mairead: Since August 2004.
Solape: What’s a fond memory you have of living here?
Mairead: Taking walks on the beach and having a look at the beautiful seashore down by the beach. I love hanging out with my friends.
Solape: Have you seen this community come back from hard times before?
Mairead: Yes, I was here when the Bettystown economy collapsed in 2008.
Solape: What are some things that have helped you through lockdown and what brings you joy?
Mairead: Working from home and my friends helped me through lockdown. My friends play a very big role in my life and keep me going- we walk on the beach, talk, and catch some fresh air.
Solape: What does community mean to you? What sort of things are you doing now to stay connected to your community and family?
Mairead: Community means a lot to me, I try to help out as much as I can. I joined the choir in church. I love putting a smile on people’s faces and would do anything to make that happen.
Solape: What message do you want to share for yourself and this community in 10 years time?
Mairead: Look out for each other, talk to each other, be kind to each other. Check on your neighbours and how they are doing and communicate. Communication is key.
