Interviewed by Jack Beusang / photos by Sharon Smith
Jack: How long have you lived in the area?
Eamonn & Noeleen: 54 years.
Jack: What’s a fond memory you have of living here?
Eamonn & Noeleen: I have fond memories of the ladies club and the community aspect of it, as well as watching how our community has developed.
Jack: Have you seen this community come back from hard times before?
Eamonn & Noeleen: Yes, the community used to just be barely hanging on but since the 70s there has been massive economic development in the area.
Jack: What are some things that have helped you through lockdown and what brings you joy?
Eamonn & Noeleen: We enjoy television, classical music and family involvement.
Jack: What does community mean to you? What sort of things are you doing now to stay connected to your community and family?
Eamonn & Noeleen: The contact we have through the church and doing business in the community, as well as socialising with our neighbours keeps us well connected to our community.
Jack: What message do you want to share for yourself and this community in 10 years time?
Eamonn & Noeleen: We hope to maintain our current quality of life, and hope that the community can keep the village feel without over commercialising.
Pictured below is a poem titled ‘Grandparents’ that Jack wrote as the creative response to his interview with his grandparents, Eamonn & Noeleen. There are also other images from Eamonn & Noeleen’s shoot with Sharon.
