PJ Mescall
Interviewed by Jack Mescall
Jack: How long have you lived in the area?
PJ: All my life.
Jack: What’s a fond memory you have of living here?
PJ: When we won the first championship in 50 years in 1957.
Jack: Have you seen this community come back from hard times before?
PJ: Yes, the summer of 1953 was very bad and a lot of cattle died. The same happened again in 1974.
Jack: What are some things that have helped you through lockdown and what brings you joy?
PJ: I read books and worked on the farm and watched matches on the TV.
Jack: What does community mean to you? What sort of things are you doing now to stay connected to your community and family?
PJ: I go to all the matches and never miss a game, and I go to the pub twice a week to meet the people.
Jack: What message do you want to share for yourself and this community in 10 years time?
PJ: I hope that all the youth will have jobs and stay in the area and have good health.
