Eileen Naughton
Interviewed by Ronan Mescall
Ronan: How long have you lived in the area?
Eileen: 91 years.
Ronan: What’s a fond memory you have of living here?
Eileen: All the friendly neighbours calling in and out all the time for tea and a chat.
Ronan: Have you seen this community come back from hard times before?
Eileen: Yes, recovery from floods and bad weather.
Ronan: What are some things that have helped you through lockdown and what brings you joy?
Eileen: Family and neighbours were always there to help and support.
Ronan: What does community mean to you? What sort of things are you doing now to stay connected to your community and family?
Eileen: Community means keeping in touch all the time. The priest calls to the house and neighbours and family are always around.
Ronan: What message do you want to share for yourself and this community in 10 years time?
Eileen: Stay positive! Always have time for a chat with people, and attend your doctor on a regular basis to stay safe and healthy.
Shown in the images below is the drawing that Ronan created in response to his interview with Eileen – a sketch of her home. He also included social media posts of Eileen.
