Shauna, Hollyann, & Coleen: How long have you lived in the area?
Liz & Jimmy: 50 years.
Shauna, Hollyann, & Coleen: What’s a fond memory you have of living here?
Liz & Jimmy: Our four children were born and reared here, so our fondest memories are of them growing up.
Shauna, Hollyann, & Coleen: What was the best moment of your life?
Liz & Jimmy: The day that we got married.
Shauna, Hollyann, & Coleen: Have you seen this community come back from hard times before?
Liz & Jimmy: Yes, certainly! There were many recessions we came back from and the village went through struggles and regained itself several times.
Shauna, Hollyann, & Coleen: How is our childhood different to how your childhood was?
Liz & Jimmy: Technology- there was no technology when we were young. The population has also increased and there are a lot of new houses.
Shauna, Hollyann, & Coleen: What are some things that have helped you through lockdown and what brings you joy?
Liz & Jimmy: After the lockdown, we were able to go out and visit family and friends again and that helped us get through those harder days- knowing that there would be a time for hugs and gatherings again.
Shauna, Hollyann, & Coleen: What does community mean to you? What sort of things are you doing now to stay connected to your community and family?
Liz & Jimmy: We delight in seeing the village being kept clean and tidy, so this is something we do together. We also go out to bingo in our village every Saturday and mass every Sunday. These are nice ways to talk to the community and stay connected.
Shauna, Hollyann, & Coleen: What message do you want to share for yourself and this community in 10 years time?
Liz & Jimmy: We would love to see more being done with the environment so that our village will still be as lovely and special 10 years from now.
Shauna, Hollyann, & Coleen’s experience with the project: “We enjoyed having the time to sit down and have a special chat with a senior in our area. It was quite special to hear them be passionate and caring for their community and also hearing them think back on memories.”
