Vincent & Gabriel Tierney

Interviewed by Tamara Plunkett

Tamara: How long have you lived in the area?
Vincent & Gabriel: I have lived in the area for 47 years.

Tamara: What’s a fond memory you have of living here?
Vincent & Gabriel: I loved sports. We had good times playing football and hurling. It was also great to live beside the Mountains so that we could go to the bog.

Tamara: Have you seen this community come back from hard times before?
Vincent & Gabriel: I couldn’t really say I’ve seen hard times. I always saw how great and close our community always was.

Tamara: What are some things that have helped you through lockdown and what brings you joy?
Vincent & Gabriel: My family is definitely one thing that helped me through lockdown. Also, going for walks up the road and talking to my neighbours. Another thing was sitting and drinking tea while watching sports on the tv since we couldn’t go and watch any matches.

Tamara: What does community mean to you? What sort of things are you doing now to stay connected to your community and family?
Vincent & Gabriel: We are not only a very quiet community but we are a very close community. We all stick together.

Tamara: What message do you want to share for yourself and this community in 10 years time?
Vincent & Gabriel: I hope everything goes well for the future and I hope to still be alive and healthy in 10 years.
