Mary Lionain
Interviewed by Meabh Ni Dhubhlaing/ photographer Madeline Mulqueen
Meabh: How long have you lived in your area?
Mary: 42 years.
Meabh: What’s a fond memory you have of living in your area?
Mary: I didn’t know many people when I moved here. I got talking to other mothers at the school gates and we became great friends.
Meabh: What are some things that have helped you through lockdown and what brings you joy?
Mary: I appreciate the fact if this had happened when I was younger that it would have been more difficult. The feeling of isolation reminds me of being a child when our farm had foot and mouth disease and we were snowed in.
Meabh: What sorts of things are you doing to stay connected to your community and family and what does community mean to you?
Mary: My youngest daughter and her new dog have moved in with us.
Meabh: What message do you want to leave for yourself and your community in 10 years?
Mary: I hope that I did not do much harm and that people think about me fondly.
